The American Kennel Club has an excellent site dedicated to homeowner's insurance. There you can find a list of the policies from many of the major insurance companies. There is also some great advice for people in search of insurance. Plus, if you would like to encourage representatives in your state to consider laws banning insurance blacklists, the AKC also provides a list of contacts for the insurance boards of every state. The site it located at: http://www.akc.org/life/homeins/homeowne... .

A Couple of Words of Advice There is a wealth of information about this topic on the web. Basically, a lot of people have a lot to say. Below, I've provided a list of a few of the articles that I viewed when doing my research.

But before I go, I would like to provide just a couple of tips to consider.

1. Don't lie. If you are looking for coverage and a company representative asks you about the breed of dog you own, be honest. Lying could get you into a very difficult situation. If you are caught lying about ownership of a certain breed, the company can immediately drop you and refuse to cover any claim. Likewise, you could find yourself (not your dog) on a blacklist of your own. Even insurance companies that do not care about the breed of dog you own will think twice about insuring someone blacklisted for any type of fraud.

2. Shop around within the company. It is not uncommon for different agents within a company to have their own policies toward dog breeds. For example, State Farm is usually considered a breed-friendly insurance company. However, I have heard of some agents refusing to cover prospective clients because of a specific dog breed. If that happens, don't hesitate to call other agents within the same company. You might just be in for a surprise.

3. Hit them where it hurts. If you have several insurance policies with a company that is suddenly refusing to renew your homeowners insurance, then take all of your business away. When searching for a new company, you might be able to get a discount if you also switch over your car or other policies as well.

Now, here's that list of articles:
