Bridget Jones's Diary
Nobody but Colin Firth could play the rugged and restrained Mark Darcy. When this man thaws, he ooooozes sex appeal. In what I would consider his best role yet, Hugh Grant steps away from his usual nice guy character to play a self- absorbed, sexy scoundrel who doesn’t know what to do with a good thing when he finds it. I adored this film and Bridget herself! I laughed, I empathized, I understood. And don’t think for a minute that guys won’t enjoy it. My husband laughed as often as I did. I give Bridget Jones’s Diary four-and-a-half hearts. This is one romantic comedy that will have you chuckling long after the credits roll. NOTE: The DVD is a must see for two reasons the bonus materials include the original Bridget Jones columns (before it was a book) and seven deleted scenes (including alternate closing credits). CAST Best lines: "Ah, introduce people with thoughtful details. Perpetua, this is Mark Darcy. Mark’s a prematurely middle-aged prick with a cruel-raced ex-wife. Perpetua’s a fat-ass old bag who spends her time bossing me around." Bridget’s imaginary introduction. "Bridget Jones, wonton sex Goddess with a very bad man between her thighs." Bridget answering the phone when her mother is calling. "Never dip your nib in the office ink." Advice Bridget receives from a friend. "I realize that when I met you at the turkey curry buffet, I was unforgivably rude, and wearing a reindeer jumper." Mark to Bridget. If you liked this you might like: Best Moment: Did you know? Hugh opted not to do a nude scene in Four Weddings and a Funeral when a make-up artist asked if he wanted definition painted on his body. Colin Firth’s depiction of Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice was actually Helen Fielding’s inspiration for Mark Darcy in BJD. Related sites: |
