”The King of the Rink is about to meet America's Ice Queen.”

Kate Mosley is a former U.S. figure skating champion and a spoiled brat. An only child, she was raised by a driven dad who’ll accept nothing less from her than Olympic gold. Over a two-year period she’s managed to drive off eight partners. Her coach is now scraping the bottom of the barrel to find her last shot at bringing home the medal.

Doug Dorsey was considered a talented, up-and-coming amateur hockey player until an injury cost him eighteen degrees of peripheral vision. Two years and over twenty rejections later, he’s realized he’ll never play pro hockey. When Coach Pamchenko approaches him about figure skating his masculine pride is offended until he understands it’s his only chance at getting back on the ice. Now, despite dire warnings about his pain-in-the-butt partner, he’s willing to give it a go. But learning to figure skate may be the easy part…thawing Kate will be the real challenge.

The sharp, biting banter between these two opposites makes for frosty fun. Moira and D.B. have great chemistry. Few romantic comedies have shown—and made you feel—the growing awareness between the hero and heroine as well as The Cutting Edge does. Watching the aristocrat and the athlete slowly change through the course of the movie is as heartwarming as it is humorous. Granted, there are no real surprises here, but The Cutting Edge is a fun, feel good movie that will make you laugh and cheer. I give it three and a half hearts.

“What do you do, shower once a week?”
“Is that an invitation?” Kate and Doug.

“There’s only two things I do really well, Sweetheart, and skating is the other one.” Doug to Kate.

“So, what do you do for fun? Polish you knife collection.” Doug to Kate.

“You want my hands where?” Doug after receiving instructions to lift Kate.

“We never get along. We’re always fighting.”
“Foreplay.” Kate denying her fiancée’s claim that she’s falling for Doug.

If you liked this you might like:
Ice Castles(1978)--it’s not a romantic comedy, but rather a fantastic, ice skating tearjerker starring Lynn-Holly Johnson and Robby Benson. One of my faves!
