Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant
RKO Radio Pictures 1938 Available on video What on earth could bring together a flighty heiress and a brainy-but-scattered zoologist? A baby, of course! That is, a leopard named Baby. Dr. David Huxley (Grant) has a few things on his mind--his wedding, a missing brontosaurus bone, and a million dollars. He hopes to have all three in less than twenty-four hours. His chances seem pretty good...until he meets Susan Vance (Hepburn). Susan makes a less than favorable impression on David when she steals his golf ball, smashes his car, then takes him for a harrowing ride on the sideboard. To say he's wary during their second encounter would be an understatement. While David wants nothing more than to avoid her, Susan finds herself smitten. She only has one day to win him over and she'll do everything in her power to make that happen. This includes, but is not limited to, having him transport a leopard to her farm in Connecticut, singing songs to Baby, saving chickens, stealing a car, tracking a dog, digging holes in search of a bone, and going to jail. Hepburn is luminescent as the madcap Susan Vance. A real treat to watch! Grant is her perfect match as the lovable, bumbling professor who doesn't stand a chance against her knock 'em down tactics. BRINGING UP BABY is a fun, screwball comedy that will have you wondering how things could possibly get worse, then laughing when you find out how. A movie to make anyone smile, I give it three hearts. While the humor is threaded throughout, the romance seems one-sided until the very end. Best lines: "Susan, when a man is wrestling a leopard in the middle of a pond he's in no position to run." David denouncing Susan's advice. "The only way you'll ever get me to follow another of your suggestions is to hold a bright object in front of my eyes and twirl it." David "Susan, will you come out of there and help me find some clothes
or must I come in and get you?" "You can hear what you want to hear." "How'd you get in?"
