Return To MeA comedy straight from the heart. Minnie Driver, David Duchovny Bonnie Hunt, James Belushi Carroll O'Connor MGM Pictures 2000 PG Premiered April 7th Two women, one heart. One man. Bob Rueland (Duchovny) is devastated when his beloved wife Elizabeth dies after a car accident. A year later, he's set up on an unsuccessful blind date that brings him into contact with Grace Briggs (Driver), a waitress at O'Reilly's Italian restaurant. A second encounter, a first date, a nudge here, a strike there and romance soon blossoms between these two. But it's not all butterflies and clammy hands Grace feels at discovering love. The excited pitter-pat she feels in her chest when she sees her new beau is possible only because of the heart transplant she received one year ago...from Bob's deceased wife. Minnie Driver and David Duchovny make you feel warm all over in this delighful romantic comedy guaranteed to choke you up and crack you up. From their very first encounter when they share a naughty secret, awareness sparks between these two. Duchovny is endearing and Driver is enchanting, but the real laughs come from the outstanding and impressive supporting cast. Bonnie Hunt (who also co-wrote and directed this film) and James Belushi are fun-loving and rib-tickling as best friends Megan and Joe Dayton. Carroll O'Connor, Robert Loggia, Eddie Jones, William Bronder and Marianne Meullerleile are O'Reilly's oldies but goodies. And Sydney the gorilla and Mel the dog get special mention as furry, loveable scene stealers. RETURN TO ME is a must see movie that appeals to a wide audience--single, married, young, old--there's something for most everyone. I happily give it five hearts for it's great blend of love and laughs, but sadly take away one for a few of its heart-wrenching moments. Best lines: "I told him that you had your chest worked on." Angelo (Loggia) to Grace. "I think your ass is ringing." Bob's obnoxious first date Marsha. "Will everyone calm down, for all that is holy, calm the hell down." Joe after he's told everyone he invited a priest over to be Grace's blind date. "Hairy legs are your only link to reality." Megan's philosophy. "When she met you, her heart beat truly for the first time." Grandpa Marty (O'Connor) to Bob. "I ache for Grace." Bob If you liked this you might like: Did you know?
