Looking for a way to show your sweetheart she/he is truly cherished? Even romantics on tight budgets can spoil their partner with a simple (or elaborate, if you wish) dining retreat. And the absolute best part of the deal is the setting; there's no need to leave home for this date. Three words should sum up the plan: Breakfast in BED!!

Caesars' romantic getaway packages include them, so why can't you? What am I referring to? If there's a special occasion worth celebrating (or creating on the spur of the moment just for an excuse to celebrate), go all out for a champagne breakfast in bed for two! It's totally romantic and is all but guaranteed to set the stage for an intimate encounter. What a way to start the day and say "I love you."

As far as the menu, ideal choices are pastries of just about any sort, homemade french toast drizzled with maple syrup and/or powdered sugar, muffins, croissants, crepes, coffee, juice, and fruits (especially the kind you don't need to peel, but can just feed to each other. Examples: grapes, cherries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, raisins, etc). Be sure to add sides of sauces such as honey, chocolate sauce, jams, etc.) Note: it's optimal to pick things you can use your fingers with and feed each other.

My menu suggestions:

(all low fat, by the way)

1. Raisin-Spice Coffee Cake: (makes 9 servings, each 350 calories, 11 g fat)

  • heat over to 350, spray 9x9x2 square pan with nonstick cooking spray
  • beat on low for 30 seconds: 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 cup sugar, 1/4 cup softened margarine, 1 cup low-fat milk, 3 tsp. baking powder, 1 tsp. ground cinnamon, ½ tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. ground allspice, 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg, 2 egg whites
  • beat on medium speed for another 2 minutes
  • stir in ½ cup raisins and spread batter into pan
  • Go To Page: 1 2

Breakfast in bed...that just gives ants a more comfortable living. How about sex in the kitchen table instead.

For my wife and I, we prefer to eat breakfast (and every other meal) in bed. It has nothing to do with romance but more to do with relaxing.

An interesting theme if only because of my aversion to it. It has always struck me as stereotypically romantic I guess, such are the images I'd gleaned from media as I grew up, and yet I find nothing ...
