Titanic Tribute

This week's focus is in honoring Titanic, the most talked about and romantic movie of the year (and then some). For anyone who has yet to see this remarkable film, hopefully this tribute will encourage finally doing so. Everyone really owes him/herself the treat of seeing this movie in the theater. It is currently the highest grossing film of all time, and it's very well on its way (if not already there) of becoming known as the best loved movie to date. (Speaking of which, it's also incredibly good "date movie" material.) All the hype surrounding Titanic is nothing at all overrated.

Paired together, the effects and emotional impact of the plot are so realistic that they actually cause viewers to feel like one of the ship's passengers. It's that authentic. The most inspiring and captivating feature of the film, however, is the love story set amid the larger story. In fact, even the writer, James Cameron, has commented that it's that tale of love that makes the film everything it has come to stand for. Even though it may immediately appear as tragic, the endearing quality of the relationship of Jack and Rose (the leading characters) defies the disasters surrounding their love.

The theme song, "My heart will go on," sung by Celine Dion, is highly romantic. The words are purely beautiful, potently touching. The lyrics tell of forever, boundless love, reflected by the timeless love story within the greater tragedy of the ship sinking. Anyone lucky enough to have caught Celine's breathtaking performance during the Grammy's had to have felt the beauty of the song. In reflection of the movie's theme, the song epitomizes how fortunate we are to know such a monumental love within a lifetime. Anyone who finds it is blessed in the highest way. The words are deeply connective by telling that no matter where our individual paths may lead, a mutual heart and soul bond can never be divided.

There's an indescribable clarity in such a relationship as that of Rose and Jack. It's a perfect knowing, a feeling, a sense of peace and security that soulmates will forever be part of each other. Time, space and distance may interrupt the physical bond, but the true structureof it is too deep to ever be severed. No matter what, physical realities can't touch what emotional connections create. (More on this theme next week!) Even fear of losing one another is ultimately overshadowed because the important thing is that the "heart will go on."

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. The movie is one of the most overrated hype I have ever seen. And as far as the love story, it is highly unlikely, in fact, impossible, that such a relationsh ...
