Since I've just become a new home owner, I've been spending some time pondering the complexities of decorating my new place. How does this tie into romance? There's an amazing Chinese art/science called Feng Shui which incorporates the use of interior and external design with our destiny. So, by sprucing up our living quarters, we can also be enhancing our loves and our relationships among those we co-reside with.

Feng Shui (pronounced "foong shway") literally stands for wind and water. This ancient understanding maintains that every place holds a significance and its features can effect our quality of life. Thus Feng Shui is the practice of understanding and encouraging the flow of energies (or Chi) to create overall harmony between people and their surroundings.

More specifically, there are four areas of concern in analyzing a place's visible and invisible energies:

    1. the surroundings (placements of key elements in the landscape and the building, as well as their relations to one another)

    2. the external situation of the place (which direction it is facing, nearby man-made structures, natural landmarks, ground level, etc.)

    3. the internal scheme: colors and items used to decorate the place

    4. room divisions and locations (to ensure each room provides harmony for its unique residents

All this means that, by following some basic principles, we can create positive family relationships; foster good health, encourage peace, wealth, mental clarity, romance, success, and general good luck. No, drastic changes are not necessary to get the loving auras flowing. Simply arranging existing furniture in prime spots or adding specific colors to a room can make all the difference.

For instance, experts agree that there's true importance in how the bed is positioned. The optimal spot is against a solid wall, not directly in front of the door or with a mirror in front of it. Your feet should face out. By the way, a round bed is the best bet for positive chi! Also, by consciously placing certain objects like aquariums, mirrors, fountains, flowers, crystals, candles and chimes in appropriate locations in the home, we may increase our likelihood at harmonious relationships with our mates.

But, hey . . . . Don't take my word for it, try it out for yourself. Below are sites and books to further your education on this phenomenal art. Take some time to learn more about Feng Shui's influences. Most of the selections I've chosen are perfect for beginning practitioners! After browsing through the basics, you'll be ready for some simple romantic Applications! Have fun exploring, rearranging, and updating your unique love nest!
