Preparing for Valentine's

Feb. 14 should be circled with a bright red heart on every calendar. Another Valentine's Day will soon be upon us, so, to get the mood of love flowing, I'd like to extend a formal invitation to take a trip back in time to uncover Cupid's Origins. Then just sit back, relax and start planning how to make your holiday extra special this year. Below I've listed my extended top ten picks for 1998. There are sites featuring some helpful tools to get even the most cynic romantic's mind soaring. You'll find charming graphics, music, books, poetry, advice, suggestions, gift ideas and lots more. Enjoy!

Web sites to check out

  • Images of Love — an exclusive collection of my favorite romantic graphics for web sites. (Bars, gifs and backgrounds)
  • Swoon's Hearty Guide to a Perfect Valentine's Day — browse the gift guide; chart your astrological love match; learn how to write the perfect love letter; view the Valentine's survival guide (pointers for singles); read romantic celebrity confessions; check out some hot movies, music, or aphrodisiacs to get you in the proper mood.
  • Valentines Forever — discover the history behind the holiday, post Valentine's wishes on the web, make a cyber proposal, listen to original love songs, take the love quiz via questionnaire, or simply choose to pay an extended visit to Cupid's links section.
  • Apple Country Valentine's — a cute page filled with a good source of personal as well as commercial Valentine's sites
  • Homearts' Special Feature — send an electronic, musically enhanced online greeting to the one you love or the one you secretly admire, from the "Postcard From the Web" site
  • Valentine's Day Screen Saver — a zip file for Windows users: little conversation hearts will bombard your desktop. You may even customize the messages, if you'd like!
  • Carolyn's Universe: Page of Love — Visually and audibly enticing, this personal page is complete with romantic graphics, musical love files, poetry and a special "goodies" section of cards, gifts, and such.
  • Aromatherapy for Lovers Interview — Tara Fellner, author of the book with the same title, offers her exclusive secrets of using exotic oils and fragrances. She even reveals some romantic massage tips!

    Valentine-worthy Literature Selections

  • Stamp-A-Love-Note: A book and Stamp Kit — Co-authors Judy Ritchie, Kate Schmidt and Jamie Kilmartin have created a great little kit for those crafty romantics. All supplies are included to get you started designing your very own, unique Valentine's cards, stationary or gifts for loved ones of every age group. This includes full-color photos.
