According to author Cathy N. Davidson, love letters are a singular form of literature, a genre whose language changed across the years, but whose standard and purpose is classic. Throughout all times, in all places, lovers have expressed their intimate feelings for one another through romantic letters. Putting words onto paper provides a lifetime treasure, a canvas of emotions at one particular moment in time. In our modern society, the charm and potency of a simple note remains the most romantic of all gifts.
The most legendary love letter composer was, of course, Cyrano DeBergerac. However, Cyrano didn't write romantic words for his own feelings, but rather for those of a dear friend. Just as no one can truly match the words you feel for your beloved, the best love letter is simply one that is written straight from the heart. Consider the presentation of your love letters. Some options, ranging from simple to elaborate, include the following:
- by postal mail (if you can allow the slight delay)
- using a bar of soap on a mirror
- on a romantic postcard
- finger-written in a steamy mirror
- through e-mail (with images of love as well)
- finger painted on a table, wall, or floor (granted it's washable!)
- on elegant stationary-perhaps in caligraphy and/or romantically stamped (consider adding a spritz of your cologne or even a lipstick-sealed kiss!)
- left on his/her car seat or under the wipers (weather permitting)
- sealed within a fancy gift box
- composed with sidewalk chalk
- in a fax (if it's not a public machine)
- hand-delivered during a special dinner
- via a telegram sent to his/her office
- on a tribute web page for your honey
- across a banner
- within a skywritten message
