Poety Contest Winners!

Many touching poems have arrived in the Romance Suite's mailbox these past several weeks. Since Valentine's Day is but a few short weeks away, I'd like to close the contest now and present the winners. The first place entry will receive Pablo Neruda's love sonnets book from Amazon. By closing the contest, the winner is ensured delivery in time for the love holiday.

I wish to begin this presentation with a special heartfelt thank you to all the contest participants. Even if your poem doesn't appear in this entry, know your efforts were greatly appreciated. Collectively, the multitude of responses encourage future contests. None of the poems are less than worthy of praise, and several not shown below would be ideal Valentine gift inclusions for the person who inspired them. It was definitely a tough decision, but here are the chosen selections. Congratulations are sincerely sent to all!

The first place poem was sent in by Judy Gripton of Clinton, IA:

I see you there, sitting just beyond the flickering flame, captivated by the shadows dancing on the wall before you gently caressing your mind's eye with its graceful tranquility. I long to be that flame, burning in your eyes, held prisoner in your view, melting like the candle to be molded into a form that fits into your ideal of perfection. My hands, cast like the shadows upon the softness of your skin, each stroke lingering between the dark and light, slowly manipulating your reality as you drift into the warmth that whispers silently into the night filling your senses beyond the understanding of this imperfect trance. Wanting only to touch you with the lips that crave a taste of your beauty, I wonder if they would scorch the skin that lay bare beneath them, feeding the desires that remain tempted and unsatisfied or if my intentions would prove too much, turning you away as the air stirred around us enlarging the flame that grows hotter crying out to you with its desperate plea to touch again and again 'til you relinquish yourself to the embellished glow dancing between us, smothering the innocent breath that heaves in your chest as my fingers trace the uncharted path beyond the reach of the flickering flame.

**First Runner-up honors go to Shirley Kacmarik of Binghamton, NY:
