Random Acts of Romance

A recent e-mail message I received struck me as a true inspiration. Although its entire content consisted of only 20 words, the impact extended beyond the confines of the computer screen and really touched me. A person I have never met or spoken with before sent me a beautiful, appreciative compliment about my web site. In two short sentences, he also acknowledged how my heart comes through in my page and how there "aren't enough people like (that) in the world." I am planning to send a thank you response back to return the kind sentiment.

In our societies today, too often people find it easier and perhaps even more justifiable to complain about things they dislike or disagree with rather than to compliment what they appreciate and enjoy. This is indeed a sad trend but there are always little reminders, such as the e-mail message I referred to, that shine a bright light over such gloomy shadows. These are inspirations to us all and should be encouraged and exercised as frequently as possible.

Similarly, a recent article mentioned practicing "random acts of romance." This notion was offered as a method of maintaining and/or enhancing chemistry in intimate relationships. The catchy phrase actually just took the national slogan, "random acts of kindness" (made popular as a result of the book and related movement with the same title) and added a twist by giving it a dimension of love. As H.A. Klauser describes this premise, it "encourages you to do your own anonymous nice deeds for strangers at unexpected moments, with no thought of your own gain, not even waiting around for a thank you or an "Aren't you sweet?", but simply spreading goodwill around, making our world a nicer place to be."

The apparent difference in the romantic version is that you already know the recipient. So there is an even greater bonus, a stronger motivation, to want to please. You'll also be able to customize the "acts" to meet the pleasure of your sweetheart. Take a moment to show you love, admire and appreciate the everyday acts and kindness of your partner. Their response will most assuredly return your own sentiments.
