Writing Erotica

In the earlier days of The Romance Suite, there was a feature on Erotic Literature. The focus, then, was on the value of reading erotica and thus using it to enhance relationships. This time around, however, the angle is on writing erotica.

Whether you are looking for a way to perk up a relationship or simply add a new element of intrigue, creating a little intimate and sensual fiction for your lover (or just for yourself) is a fun avenue to try. Perhaps you would like to publish some steamy prose for a book, magazine, or ezine market. There are some helpful resources included to explore such platforms. This is an excellent, not to mention stimulating, side job, one that is purely safe. There are no risks in this form of sexuality, and the only thing you have to gain is an awakened state of personal expression. Whatever the interest, try a little hot composition!

Some ideas to get started:

  • consider using a past, real-life experience (maybe even enhance it or carry it further)

ex: "My lover and I were driving somewhere, nowhere in particular, just together, enclosed in a the car, enclosed in each other. We were sitting close, quietly just absorbing the joy of being with each other. As is often the case, I got very aroused just being in that position, somehow dominant, with him forced to focus at least his outward attention on the road before us. His hands, or at least one of the them, was confined to the steering wheel, and the other would occasionally linger over my legs, wandering deliberately along the edge of my skirt, begging for me to assist him. I knew he wanted more to touch, but I wasn't ready, not yet. I just wanted to feel him, kiss him, taste him and know that he was wanting me."

  • think of fantasy settings, build the scene and characters first and just let the plot form from there on its own

ex. "Watching him return from my bathroom, wrapped in the thirsty maroon towel and looking so sexily into my eyes, I felt a distinct chill run through my body. The raw sensuality between us spoke wordless volumes, just in a look, just in our closeness. The energy between our two souls was undeniable as he walked slowly toward the bed, toward my waiting and anxious body. With a slow, calculated motion he freed the towel from his waist. His eyes, still focusing intently on mine, grew filled with desire, again speaking directly to my very core without saying a word. I reached out a hand to meet his and guide him onto the bed next to me. When our bodies were close again, I just took him in, fully, totally, as if trying to merge into his being through my senses. I could smell the fresh scent of soap as I rested my head, fully intoxicated by passion, upon the back of his shoulder. The dewy softness of his skin under my palm made my whole body awaken. Then, I allowed my hand to caress down his back, seductively, using merely a whisper of a touch. I drank in the pure eroticism of the moment, as I inhaled the coconut essence from the same shampoo I lathered onto my hair only hours earlier. There was just something so unexplainably sexy about that moment. I then ran my hands through the silky wetness that lingered in his hair and felt such desire for this man before me. Craving him thoroughly, my heat was building in intensity with each labored breath I took..."

Nice piece. I've not delved much into erotic fiction, but dabbled in photography. Perhaps you could follow up with a piece on that.

There's a lot of scope somehow. I've worked such beautiful subtl ...
