Valentine's Day '99

It's time once again for the Romance Suite's annual tribute to the holiday of love: Valentine's Day! Since February 14 marks one of the most treasured days of romantic possibilities of the year, this feature will be a two-part celebration. Too much hoopla over one little day? Not a chance - not if you're a true romantic. Feeling, hearing, and seeing themes of love and passion everywhere is a welcoming, warming sensation.

And now, onto this year's finds! I've attempted to choose the best new Valentine sites on the Web. Some returning sites are just as worthy of recognition, but I'll only list pages not previously linked to the Romance Suite. If you know of any other exceptional Valentine delights, whether they be related to fun, articles, gift ideas, crafts, holiday history, recipes, poetry, love songs, or graphics.... please bring them to my attention: (e-mail: Romantix@iname.com

Need some new romantic gift ideas for your Valentine (or Valentine hopeful)? Try these unique suggestions:

  • contact the object of your affection's original hometown and locate his/her birth announcement. Check the local newspapers at a public library (or a hall of records for a birth certificate). Preserve and present your copy in a beautiful heart-shaped frame (brass or silver are ideal) You may even scan it into a website dedication or take it to a copy shop to have it professionally printed with colors, background images, or a sentimental caption for effect. The message is that you celebrate and cherish his/her life. As an alternative or in addition, you may also wish to obtain your own birth announcement or certificate to frame alongside his/hers.
  • on that same notion, gift your significant other with a picture of yourself as a baby or young child. Carry one of him/her with you or use it for a couple framing (a then and now kind of thing).
