Tantric Loving

Last week the ancient wisdom of the Kama Sutra teachings and products were presented. This week, we'll move on to another fascinating form of soulful loving by touching on the basics of Tantric practices.

Again, let's first begin by breaking down the meaning of the term Tantra. It comes from the root word, tan, which is synonymous with extend, expand, spread, and weave. Its origin derives from Sanskrit and essentially means "weaving energy." Some other translations commonly associated with the word Tantra are: spiritual sex, sacred lovemaking, open-hearted love, passionate enlightenment, science of ecstasy, and conscious loving.

There are many forms, explanations, and views of Tantra. The different understandings of Tantra only allude to its wide-spread, holistic, and seemingly unlimited potential for couples. It is being "in love" to the extreme, combining deep and pure intimacy, kindred friendship, and passionate sexuality.

Following the tantric formula can yield amazing life and partnership altering results. These include prolonged and heightened pleasure of body, mind, soul, and possibly even emotional healing. The key that sets these practices apart from other methods of lovemaking is the purpose. The premise is the reverse of the traditional sexual experience. Instead of working towards orgasm, Tantric loving aims toward a much higher level of complete body and soul bonding.

Like Kama Sutra practice, Tantric sexuality is based on blending the spiritual, physical, and emotional connections between loving partners. And, it also is said to result in altered states of consciousness. It is even seen by some to be mystical in nature, because it merges not only the spirits, but also the souls of lovers. The sacred joining creates a powerful bond with all the energies they emit together and individually.

Differing from Kama Sutra, however, Tantric teachings are far less complex or difficult to obtain. They do, though, require study and practice, and of course an open mind. This all-encompassing system uses specific breathing practices, focusing energies, and meditation. It makes love truly a sacred journey of pleasure and enlightenment, a journey which takes its passengers to a higher level of interconnectedness, harmony, and balance.
