City of Angels: Romantic Movie Review

Recently, I rented a movie that I simply loved. It brought tears, which proves it was good, in my book. However, it created so much more than passing sentimentality. There are profound meanings in the plot that are touching to anyone who appreciates the beauty of love. Any movie or book (or person, for that matter) that makes you think and consider aspects of life you wouldn't otherwise, or just connects and validates something you believe strongly in deserves to be shared. So, this week I'll offer a plug for this latest romantic delight, and share with all my readers, its special treat. If you haven't yet watched "City of Angels," it's a must-see for a date or for just a quiet evening alone. The movie is about love, risks, choices, and intuition that comes out between true soulmates. I won't ruin the plot for anyone who hasn't seen the movie, but the last half hour is intense, and probably the most enlightening scenes of all come from that stage. Seth, the character played by Nicholas Cage, was asked: if he knew what would happen, would he still have made the same choices or would he change his actions? He was referring to taking risks, making great sacrifices to be with one special woman in his life (played by Meg Ryan). What he said is the most tender part/lines of the entire film (in my opinion, anyhow). He basically confirmed that, without a second thought, he would do the exact same thing. He would give up one of the most fundamentally valuable aspects of himself in order to feel one moment of that incredible kind of love. He seemed to intuitively feel that experiencing all the splendor of true love (both in the given and received forms) was worth the pain of time, the sacrifices involved, the hurt of it being taken away. Seth would not trade a second, or take back all he gave up to experience that bonding. It was that precious to him. And, the most astounding part, was that even through the pain of his hindsight, he would uphold every one of his convictions. The concepts the movie brings to light set in motion so many higher truths, above all, that there are no boundaries with love. That truth is what should motivate us all, in our daily lives, in most especially within our love relationships. What a powerful inspiration!
