My true love hath my heart, and I have his,
By just exchange, one for the other given.
I hold his dear, and mine he cannot miss:
There never was a better bargain driven.
His heart in me, keeps me and him in one,
My heart in him, his thoughts and senses guides:
He loves my heart, for once it was his own:
I cherish his, because in me it bides.
His heart his wound received from my sight:
My heart was wounded with his wounded heart,
For as from me, on him his hurt did light,
So still methought in me his hurt did smart:
Both equal hurt, in this change sought our bliss:
My true love hath my heart and I have his.
~Sir Philip Sidney
The heart symbol has been connected with love and romance from medieval days. Ever since, people across the globe have considered the heart to effect our innermost feelings and strongest emotions. The actual heart organ does not mirror the traditional shape, nor does it really control our emotions, yet this image has been adopted as the universal icon of love. It was actually Hallmark that first introduced the catchy design, which was originally presented on Valentine cards.
I've mentioned "hug-therapy" in a previous editorial, now I'm proposing "love-therapy", as another miracle. Positive, loving relationships support healthy lifestyles. Blood pressure, energy & stress levels all are affected by heart signals. Thus, even individuals with physical ailments can improve their overall treatment & longevity with a good old-fashioned dose of love! The Institute of HeartMath presents documentation of studies which support the theory that love is truly good for your heart--and your soul!
Heart-felt Quotes:- "Love could not have a more perfect symbol than the heart~a shape composed of two gracefully curving lines, symmetrical and joined, like lovers who reflect each other and form two halves of a greater whole." (Excerpt from The Book of Hearts)
- "The heart isn't actually considered a charm, but I believe us all to be lucky because of our hearts. As love and luck go hand-in-hand, the (pink) hearts truly (deserve) their place." [excerpt about Lucky Charms cereal]
- "The heart is a symbol of knowledge, purpose, and courage. It is a muscle...and it has to be exercised to become strong. A lot of people are so afraid of feeling anything, so afraid of feeling bad, that they put a protective shell around their heart...one has to dedicate oneself to develop the heart, just as one develops the head." (Michael Maccoby, Ph.D)
