Bitten by Evil
Andrew Jaeger 247 Pages ISBN: 155212399-5 Reviewed by Valerie Cole Bitten by Evil is a story of sacrifice. A story of family. Of terror. Of fear. But most of all, Bitten by Evil is a story of love. The book starts out with the main character, Derrick Vaughn, hidden from the presence of his father. The father, abusive when drunk, is a prominent businessman obsessed with getting more money. Derrick’s mother, a concert violinist, shows only love to him. A voice of reason, of calming love, of unconditional love, Derricks’ mother is physically abused while protecting her son. Derrick does not see why she doesn’t just leave her husband. She honors her vows to her death. As Derrick sits holding his dying mother in his arms, begging his father to help him, his father comes down the stairs, points the gun to his own head and shoot himself. Needless to say, Derrick is unsure of what true love is. He runs from it. Denies it. He meets Tricia Longevin, a once practicing therapist, now a restaurant waitress, who believes Derrick can overcome his past. Unfortunately, she does not realize to what lengths this artist will go to try to avoid love. The author, Drew Yeager, does an excellent job of portraying a modern day Jekyll & Hyde. You feel the urgency and pain in each of the characters. You feel their lives, the panic that controls their actions. And you feel the acceptance and love that finds ways to conquer everyone’s Mr. Hyde. 3 Stars Background Drew has no formal education in literature. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and has been employed as an accountant for ten years. He is currently employed as the Vice President of Finance for PMI, Inc. in Lafayette, GA. Impetus “ Bitten by Evil is my first novel,” Drew said. “After nine years of being an accountant and strictly viewing my life analytically, I decided I wanted to do something creative. I wanted to know there was something inside of me that was more than just calculated reason. I wanted to experience that intangible spirit that I think any good writer, musician, or artistic-type feels. So, I took a leap of faith. I stopped working as an accountant for a year and wrote a novel. Course, not working professionally has its consequences. I have suffered tremendous financial loss, but I believe I have something that has exponentially more value than money. I have a novel, dedicated to my daughter, which expresses nearly everything I have ever felt and believed to this point in my life.” Go To Page: 1 2
