The Taming of Shaw MacCade
By Judith E. French
ISBN: 0-345-43760-8
Publisher: Ivy Books, New York
Category: Historical Romance
The Raeburn and MacCade families had carried on a blood feud for so long that no one knew for certain when it had begun but it had followed them from the mists of the Scottish Highlands all the way to Missouri. Murder followed murder and both clans were cursed - no liaison between them would ever prosper. Despite the circumstances pushing them apart, there is an undeniable attraction between Becca and Shaw. They struggle with the dilemma of their growing love for each other and loyalty to their families that demanded allegiance to their history and heritage of bloody revenge. Shaw is determined to bring his brother's killer to justice. And all the evidence points to Becca's father as the perpetrator of the crime. Becca resolves to rescue her sister, sent away in disgrace after having a child bearing unmistakable resemblances to the MacCade family. Romance flourishes between Becca and Shaw as they share a few adventurous weeks. They taste the ephemeral sweetness of an impossible life together before returning to face the wrath of their families demanding justice and retribution. Judith French has written a fast paced adventurous historical romance with many surprising twists and turns in the plot. The characters and circumstances are well drawn and convincing and I found it difficult to put down this rollicking yarn. 4 stars BIO: Marnie Holmes is an Australian freelancer who writes about Turkey, travel, parenting and bugs.
