New Orleans, Louisiana. Liza Hawkins, newly famous artist has never got over her missing love Duke. Duke Masonne has been missing and considered dead for five long years. But during those years, Liza never stopped loving him. Liza tries to move on and begins dating plain-clothes detective, Trent Maxwell.

For the past five weeks, Liza wonders if she has been going slowly insane. She is sure she has seen Duke and that he has been stalking her. Of course, her friends and her manager think she should see a psychiatrist. Duke is dead, after all.

At a showing of her artwork, she sees Duke again. Liza runs out on her showing to catch him and he disappears. Her dear friend, Eleanor Curry, is there to help pick up the pieces. Liza feigns a migraine and is off the hook for now.

Eleanor Curry is visiting from Washington, D.C. and leaves her cat, Familiar, with Liza.

"You're leaving the cat?" Liza looked at the black cat that was scampering around the room. "Don't ever underestimate him," Eleanor said. "He's the best detective working the business."

And everyone though Liza was having delusions?

Duke has amnesia after a beating where he was left for dead five years ago. He only knows himself as Mike Davis. Trent Maxwell lets Liza know that Duke was a suspect in a murder five years earlier.

Did Mike Davis aka Duke Masonne kill someone five years ago? How are they going to find the truth when the police are turning the town over looking for them both?

Familiar's search for truth and justice kept me turning the pages as quick as I could. His monologue rings true. Could you ever imagine? A cat detective? The antics this great cat does to get the attention of those he is helping is nothing short of amazing.

This is the 13th in the Fear Familiar Series by Caroline Burnes. She has a winner. This was humorous and suspenseful.

I couldn't put this book down. This is on my list of keepers for sure. 4 stars! Thank you, Ms. Burnes! I look forward to seeing more Familiar in the future.
