This is an advance review. This book is due in August 2000 as a hardback.

Liam Pierce Rourke, son of Gabriel and Eileen, grew up as Valerie Prescott's younger brother. Valerie's father, Edward Prescott, raised Liam as his own after his own father, Gabriel committed suicide due to his grief over his wife's passing. Gabriel foiled a kidnapping attempt on Valerie when she was a child. Edward would have given anything to Gabriel, including raising Gabriel's child as his own.

Liam was a good son. Liam was so distraught over his father's death that he chose to go by Pierce. After all, Liam meant "love" and he felt that he wasn't loved because his own father had committed suicide and couldn't stay around with him.

Pierce left his career as an attorney and went into architecture. He designed many of the homes where Callie's (Valerie's youngest daughter) friends lived. Pierce was Callie's show and tell project one day. The girls had plenty of warning that he was going to be there that day and it seems that their mother's helped them with their questions. He was asked many personal questions that he probably because he was Denver's most eligible bachelor.

Pierce meets the school librarian, Ms. Anastasia Finch, when picking Callie up from school. Ms. Finch runs the book club. Callie thinks very highly of Miss Finch. The article the book club will be studying is on Grace Alysia Quinn. The child who Pierce has very strong feelings about. This fire happened 23 years ago and had set Pierce on the prowl to find the killer, until it was publicized that the killer was dead. Both he and Valerie had concerns about the girls studying that particular topic.

What is more unusual, Callie tells Pierce that Grace is alive. The killer had given Grace to a family to raise her. Police were unable to create a future image of her and it is near impossible since she was taken so young. All previous pictures of Grace were destroyed. It was impossible to obtain DNA samples because her father was cremated after his auto accident, so was Mary Beth, the mother, after she was burned in the fire that supposedly also killed Grace.

At Valerie's daughter, Melissa's wedding, the singer is unable to come at the last minute. The wedding planner calls her emergency back up. The songstress sings and no one can see her. Pierce loves the voice, it speaks to him. It made him want to be with Ana Finch all the more. Pierce used to sing and had a wondrous voice. He quit singing when his father committed suicide. Later that evening, he found out that Ana was the singer. She does not want Pierce because she has a psychotic family history. Pierce promises her that he will protect her from that.
