The Dream by Kat Martin

Genny Austin began having horrible nightmares and insomnia after she found her husband lying dead on the sidewalk in front of their beachfront condo. Is she still suffering from the trauma two years later?

Genny would walk the beach at night to help clear her head after a nightmare. Three men attacked Genny one evening and Jack Brennan, adventurer and sailor, came to her rescue. Jack takes Genny home and makes sure she is okay. He'd help anyone who was in a jam. And if it ends up that she is gorgeous and he wants to get her into his bed, all the better.

What started to bother Jack was he wanted to see more of Genny. Just a quick romp in the sack and he'd be on his way to other conquests. Jack is completely honest with Genny. He wants a sexual relationship with her and no ties of any kind. Of course, Genny's a little flabbergasted. She's a librarian for crying-out-loud. She is a respectable member of the community. No matter how hard she tries to deny it, she continues to be attracted to this man.

Genny opens up to Jack about her nightmares. Not only have they gotten worse but now they are clearer. She is sure they mean something. But what? Jack promises Genny that he can help her get a good night sleep if she will just let him love to her. Her nightmares scare her to death but she can't have sex even for the promise of a good night sleep.

Jack starts to worry about Genny and her nightmares. That was not in his game plan. Genny makes friends Charley, Jack's salty business partner. Charley is well read and has an idea of what may be going on with her nightmares. When Charley's friends suggests hypnotism and begins looking for past life regressions, the reason behind the dreams slowly appear.

These are strong characters and you are rooting for them all the way. I couldn't put the book down and neither will you. Suspenseful, dramatic, spicy and sexy. I can certainly understand why Ms. Martin is a best-selling author. As a fellow insomniac, I could certainly identify with this book. I look forward to reading more of her work.
