Nantucket Island, 1727. Daniel Fairbourne finds Juliette Lacroix on the beach almost dead and brings her home to his cottage near the sea. The beautiful castaway only remembers the cold water. Instead of sending her to a respectable family inland to recuperate, Daniel keeps her hidden at his home.

Daniel is silently tormented by the drowning of his pregnant wife. People on the island respect him but don't go out of their way to be friendly with him. Only Juliette is able to chase Daniel's demons away and help him enjoy life again.

Juliette slowly begins to remember bits and pieces of her past during dreams. Daniel waits (sometimes impatiently) for her memory to return. He grows more attached to her and dreads the day when she will leave. His struggles with this inner conflict and sends mixed messages to Juliette.

By the time Juliette remembers most of her past, Daniel has already proposed in haste to her during an emergency situation. Juliette realizes she must find her family to let them know she's alive, so she can marry Daniel. She leaves Daniel on a find her family and Daniel must come to grips that she may not return.

After Daniel catches up with her, he realizes he must tell Juliette about his past. He cannot live a secret any longer. Will Juliette understand and accept this secret?

The pacing is wonderful. Ms. Jarrett keeps you turning the pages with the flow of delightful dialogue and descriptions. You could hear the lilt of their tongues, the joy and sorrows of their hearts. "Sunrise" is a wonderful and uplifting amnesia story. It kept me smiling.

Ms. Jarrett's descriptions on setting were exquisite. You felt like you were living in that time period.
