Eve Barron lives in the small, fairly deserted township called Jakes Corner. She's young, beautiful and can think quickly on her feet. The few town people are about ready to go bankrupt after having sunk their resources into property on Lake of the Wolves at Eve's request. Dane Newson, Newson Enterprises, came through Jake's Corner on his way to Foster Rapids to negotiate with someone on the same property. Dane rolls his vehicle and gets stranded on the way to the meeting. Eve tried to warn Dane that the roads were trouble in the weather and tried to convince him to stay at the Last Chance Gas and Grill. Dane, being a punctual man, wouldn't miss his meeting. Eve sent Jake after him in his contraption of a truck he calls Sweet Pea just to make sure Dane wasn't stranded. Lo and behold, Jake found Dane. Jake dumps Dane off at the Last Chance and he's a bit sheepish about rolling his car in the mud and Eve lets him stay on (just like she would any other customer stuck in Jakes Corner), until his vehicle can be repaired which may just take some time due to the antics of the residents. After a while Dane begins to feel like he was kidnapped. Of course, he didn't mind too much because he liked Eve's company. When Dane finds out who Eve really is (or was), he is flabbergasted. Dane plays the game for a while but eventually Eve loses all. Out of shear desperation for the project at Lake of the Wolves, Eve swallows her pride follows Dane to the city. Will Dane help her after all that she and the gang at Jakes Corner did to him? A quick read from Ponder Publishing. Full of clever and fun loving characters. This is Jordanna Boston's first book. 3 stars Go To Page: 1
