Mick Jagger and Keith Richards first met each other as primary school mates who lived down the block from each other. Years later, they bumped into each other on a train platform and Richards spied the American blues records under Mick's arm. Their love of American music became the foundation for a life long friendship. The dynamic duo soon teamed up with Brian Jones to form The Rolling Stones. Charlie Watts was working as a graphic artist for an advertising agency and playing gigs on weekends when Mick and Keith convinced him to join the group. Rumor has it that Mick didn't really want Bill Wyman in the band but coveted his equipment so they invited him in.

The Stones' bad-boy image and "anti-Beatles" stance was created by manager Andrew Oldham and first fed to Americans via Ed Sullivan's television show. From the very beginning, it was clear that young people would cling to these rebels. No matter how much trouble the boys got into it just strengthened their reputations. Brian, Mick, and Keith were all arrested in 1967 and Mick was sentenced to three months in prison. Luckily, the sentence was suspended. Supposedly, the drugs found were not even Mick's but belonged to then girlfriend Marianne Faithfull

A lot of media attention has been focused on a few tragic events that have dotted the group's history: the 1969 of guitarist Brian Jones; the Stones' 1969 Altamont, California, concert where four people were killed; the death of Keith's third child, Tara and Keith's arrest for heroin possession in 1977. Though it all Mick and his trademark swagger has taken the group from a little R&B quintet to the greatest rock and roll band in the world.
