It’s that time of year again. In the next few days millions of people will be signing up for memberships at gyms, pools and health clubs all over the world. People will resolve to give more and take less. To be kinder and gentler. People promise themselves they will be at peace with their fellow man. Is all this is a doomed attempt to assuage the guilt left over from scarfing tons of Christmas goodies? Or does it come from some deep human need to try and make a fresh start, to make things better this year than in the one before?
Whatever the reason, resolutions will be made (and often broken by Valentines Day) by many of us. I’ve made a few. I’m sure you have too. This got me thinking about the Boys. Do they make resolutions? What kind of promises do they make to themselves? Since they haven’t announced their plans for the New Year, here are some of the resolutions I would make if I were them.
Mick Jagger
Mick should resolve to keep it in his pants. Or at least use condoms. This is the 21st century after all. When I look back at the news stories over the past couple of years the majority of them have to do with Mick’s “sexcapades.” I suppose as he gets older he will work harder to prove he can still do the do. I’m not sure whether this is funny, sad or just human. Note to self: If Mick ever does start using condoms, buy stock in whichever brand he prefers.
Keith Richards
Keith should resolve not to be so blunt in interviews. Keith always says what he thinks. There’s nothing bad about that. He’s a nice guy. We don’t have to worry about him spewing some hate filled garbage at some unsuspecting victim. But, there have been a few times lately when Keith has said EXACTLY what he thought of a fellow musician and those comments have made Keith look bad. Some times discretion is advisable. Keith’s opinions are perfectly valid (I even agreed with him on Elton John) but it might be better to keep some opinions private. I hate to see Keith coming across like a crotchety, mean spirited old man in interviews.
Ron Wood
I think most people know that Ronnie has resolved to tone down the drinking. This is a great idea. I wish him the best. Alcoholism is not easy to deal with. I’m sure he knows the fans are behind him. Ronnie should resolve to continue working on his health (as everyone should). It has always seemed to me that Ronnie has the most upbeat nature of all the Stones. I’m sure this will be a great help to him when it comes to keeping his resolution.
