This Thanksgiving I thought it might be appropriate to step back and thing about what I'm thankful for. Obviously I'm thankful for the Rolling Stones, but the reason might not be so clear. The Stones brought me many hours of enjoyment through their music, but they have also introduced me to other artists. I would have never discovered the Blues without the boys' help. I would not have fallen in love with the Delta rhythms. Here's a look at some of the artists that have found a place in my music collection since I heard about them through the Stones.

Jonny Lang : In 1998 I saw Jonny Lang on his 16th birthday when he was opening for the Stones. He was amazing. I could not believe this kid. I never heard of him but I was sure I was going to hear lots about him. I went out the next day and bought Wander This World and fell in love with the song Leaving To Stay. Since then, Lang has put out two more CDs that I would recommend to any Blues fan.

Bo Diddley: What can I say about the man who invented the “Bo Diddley Beat”? The Stones have been big Bo fans for years. When they first started playing they did cover versions of his songs. I still thing that “Roadrunner is the most down and dirty song ever recorded. And nobody does it like Bo. The latest collection of Bo tunes is The Best of Bo Diddley – Millennium. It contains many of Bo's hits.

Jimmy Reed: The first time I heard Mick and the boys play “Bright Lights Big City” I got a chill. I knew I had to hear the original. I was surprised to find that I already knew a few of Reed's songs. Many of them have been covered by rock artists. 20 Classic Tracks is a great place to start if you want to get to know this interesting artist.

Professor Longhair: Ian Stewart lead me to the Professor. I loved Ian's piano playing and I wanted to hear others like him. There are many great old piano players but the Professor is my favorite. The Fess Anthology contains many of Professor Longhairs greatest songs including my favourite "Boogie Woogie".
