Most of you know by now that Mick's mother Eva died on May 18th at the age of 87. Over the past week I have been looking around the Internet* to find out more about the woman who gave the world an amazing performer. I can't help being disappointed by the lack of information. On one hand I think it is nice that Mick's parents were able to keep there lives private. The public has no right to their lives.
On the other hand I would have liked to read her own words about her son. The only quote I could find online was this one which turned up in almost every news article: ``People are always asking what it's like to have a famous son. The answer is simple -- to me he is just a son. I don't think of him as a star.'' Besides being "stay-at-home" mother to Michael and Christopher Jagger, she was the daughter of Alfred and Gertrude Scutts and wife to Basil (Joe) Fenshawe Jagger. According to the BBC, Eva "was the dominant force in the Jagger household and was held in high regard by Mick." I would seem that Eva was proud of Mick. Also according to the BBC:
I wanted to write all about "Mick's Mom" but there is not enough information available online. It took me over two hours just to find her maiden name and that was just luck. The another reason I wanted to write about Eva Jagger was to express my sadness at Mick's loss. I'm sure many Stones fans feel for Mick and he'll receive lots of cards and messages. This article is mine. It is the first time I can honestly say that I have sympathy for that little devil. (Sorry, had to do it, I couldn't let this get too maudlin! I believe that finding something to smile about makes great tragedy easier to take.) The last reason I wanted to write this article is because of one of those strange parallels we all experience every now and then. The day before Mrs. Jagger passed away I found out that my father had died two years ago (obviously we weren't close). What I feel most about his passing is regret. Regret that I will never know the answers to my questions. Regret that I will never get to know the man who gave me his DNA.
