Demon The Fallen: What Might Be Coming Our Way

Everyone, even gaming companies, makes mistakes. In the case of White Wolf, disaster struck with the 2001 July-December catalog. Gamers were quick to note an unusual item listed under "dice": a set of dice for Demon:the Fallen, complete with product number. The only problem is that White Wolf doesn't publish a game called Demon, furthermore they had not issued any sort of press release or GenCon announcement that they would be publishing one.

Rumors started flying around every White Wolf forum on the Internet and they haven't stopped in the past five months. White Wolf has neither confirmed or denied that the game is forthcoming. Some gamers declare the entire thing is a hoax, a bad marketing strategy that bombed. Others suggest it was simply a misprint. The newest printing of the catalog lacks the DtF dice reference, complicating the matter further. Fans with contacts inside White Wolf have debated back and forth, some saying the game is a joke, others promising that it is on its way.

I personally think that the game is coming and look forward to it with anticipation. What White Wolf ~has~ offered in a press release is that next year's theme is Year of the Damned. Several months ago, I stumbled upon a reference in an online distributor's catalog that included the product numbers and ISBNs for both DtF dice and the hardcover source book. The promotional blurb described the Fallen as human infernalists seeking redemption. Much to my regret, I merely posted the link to several forums that do not maintain post archives and did not copy the information down. A week later it was lost.

I'd put Demon:the Fallen out of my mind until this past week when I started reading the Revised version of The Book of Madness (ISBN 1-56504-442-8 WW 4602) with the intention of making it my next Product Review for Suite101.com. Suddenly, I went back to the forums to see if anyone had new information about Demon. Too many coincidental details had been offered in the new Book of Madness. I wanted to see if I was the only one who'd noticed that subtle but significant changes in the Infernalism rules seemed to be paving a wonderful gateway for a role-playing game about non-Mage infernalists.

While I did not find any new revelations regarding Demon:the Fallen in the forums this week, I recovered the information that I'd read before: the blurb in the Alliance Game Distributor's regarding WW 08200 Demon:the Fallen. It describes the Fallen as "a new kind of character emerging into the World of Darkness" with a December 2001 release date. For the curious, see http://www.rpg.net/pf/read.php?f=33&i=14... . I had read it directly off the Alliance Game web site at http://www.alliance-games.com/ but no longer can access it there. Nevertheless, the forum post was exactly what I'd remembered reading- and in the context of what has been released in The Book of Madness, everything really does fall in place.
