And the cowboys and cowgirls’ hard work won out. All rodeos are intense competitions, but this rodeo didn’t give a cowboy a second chance. The Canadian and American cowboys and cowgirls rodeoed for all they were worth.

Olympic Command Performance Rodeo medallion winners were scored on a points system of 50, 30, and 20 to the first through third-place finishers in each round. Individual medals were given, but the points added up to see who pulled in the team trophy. Would it be Canada or the United States?

Team USA Captain Tom Reeves took home a gold buckle for saddle bronc riding, and he accepted the Olympic team trophy on behalf of the United States. Team USA earned 1,363 points to Canada’s 737.

All in all, this was an event to mark down in the history books. Not only did the Winter Olympics come to America, but the 2002 Olympic Command Performance Rodeo gave the fans a piece of an American tradition--rodeo.
