Stardog Champion/Apple has almost nothing in common with the music of the Seattle grunge bands that followed, including Gossard and Ament's next band, Pearl Jam. Stardog Champion is a solid, amazingly coherent hard rock album in the tradition of early Aerosmith and Led Zepplin. Highlights include the blues-drenched Stardog Champion and the epic Bone China that would have fit in perfectly on a '70s progressive rock album.
