Metal Chicks You Don't Bring Home To MomDoro Pesch Born in Dusseldorf in 1964, Doro first hit the German metal scene as guitarist for the band Snakebite, later joining Warlock. In 1986, she was the first female performer at the testosterone heavy Castle Donnington Monsters of Rock festival. Warlock albums include Burning the Witches, Hellbound, True as Steel and Triumph and Agony. After several line-up changes, including the departure of founding member Rudy Graf, the moniker Warlock becomes a thing of the past and the band is now known as Doro. Love Me In Black, her Warner Brothers debut, is released in 1998, and in 2000, she plays the Metal Meltdown in New Jersey, her first U.S. performance in ten years. The Great Kat Trained as a classical musician at Julliard,Katherine Thomas turned her formidable talent to metal music. Here's a review of her third album, circa 1991, - Beethoven on Speed Take Katherine Thomas, a Julliard graduate with a penchant for playing Beethoven at 90 rpm, dress her up in black leather and bustiers, set a demented growl against rollercoaster versions of Bach, Paganini, and "Flight of the Bumblebee", and she becomes the Great Kat. Her Roadrunner album Beethoven on Speed contains odes to thrash metal coupled with her love for Beethoven (Sample title: - 1st Movement-Allegro in Murder. Not as unlikely a marriage as you'd think: the fervor of Beethoven's Fifth and metal are kinfolks in energy. The concept may seem exceedingly comic at first, but Katherine Thomas' brilliance as a musician is undeniable whether she's giving a violin recital at Carnegie Hall or cavorting through exaggerated metal paeans like Ultra-Dead. Her latest release, Rossini's Rape, is also not for the faint of heart. Ann Boylen/Hellion The band Hellion first hit the L.A. music scene around the same time Motley Crue, Quiet Riot and the like were gaining national prominence. Fronted by charismatic singer Anne Boylen. (Like the Runaways, she was "discovered by L.A. scenester Kim Fowley.) Hellion achieved an avid following in Europe in the 1980s, though stateside success was minimal. Ann's record label New Renaissance, is dedicated to the promotion of pure metal music, sans fillers. She recently completed a solo album and is auditioning prospective bandmembers for an upcoming tour. http://www.officialhellionsite.freeyello... http://newrenaissancerecords.com
