~Poetry Contest Winner~

The votes are in and the winner is.......... Amy Waltrip! for her poem entitled If Only.... Three years ago, Amy's high school sweetheart, was murdered by his girlfriend. She stabbed him three times during a heated arguement. His girlfriend is in prison now, but is up for parole in 2006, which obviously is upsetting to many people. This poem, is about the heartache that many endured because of this one woman. It is a wonderful poem, that touched me and many others. Thank you Amy, for writing such a great piece!

If Only...

If only you'd have taken a moment
if only you'd have paused
If only you'd have seen the pain
your rage has surely caused
If only you'd have realized
how many people would be hurt
Maybe you'd have understood
just how much his life was worth

His children have no Daddy
His parents laid to rest their son
His blood is on your hands
How can you live with what you've done

If only you'd have contemplated
how to control all of your hate
If only you were sorry then;
now sorry is too little, way too late
If only he'd been given a chance
If only he had the slightest clue
If only God would turn back time
But what you did He can't undo

Whatever reason you may have
for sealing this man's fate
Will never be enough,
there's not a thing that you can say

His blood is on your hands
How can you ever pay the price
If only you'd have talked things out
This man we loved would be alive.
