Too many times have I opened mail from poetry contests, telling me that I am a semi-finalist, and all I have to do is buy this anthology and I could win! We all have been hoaxed at one time or another. Well I am here to expose the fraudulent poetry contest.
Most Likely Fake Poetry Contests
- Poetry.com - I think that we all know this website! It states right on the top of the index page, come join us, and submit your poem for our contest, along with "5.1 million {other} poets"! Wait a second!!!! This past year, there were only 13 winning entries, with most in the $500 category! So, are you being played a fool? Indubitably!
- Famouspoets.com - **$50,000** in bright blinking colors at the top of the page! What they do not tell you, is that you can not win $50,000, because there is only $50,000 to be had, between 21 people! Whether this contest is real or not, is questionable, seeing as the winning poems could easily be topped by any poem in my Critiquing Board !!
- Poetrycontestonline.com - Do I really need to write it??? Oh wait, they do it for me: "All winning entries are guaranteed publication at our expense! Non-winning entries may be published at the author's request with purchase of a copy of the anthology. "
- IF on the poetry contest's website, you are told the prize first off... do not bother.... IF you are given no additional info other THAN the prize, do not do it!
