Book Review: Gathering Pearls

"Gathering Pearls" by Susan Maree Jeavons, is this month's book for our new book review section. This book is a collection of inspirational poems. These poems are about her life and the pearls that she has gathered along the way, from a traumatic childhood to adulthood. Susan Jeavons is dedicated to helping the victims and survivors of child abuse. Her website is: The Sacred Circle. Susan Jeavon's poems are very inspirational and wise. Here are a couple of her poems for you all to read!!

Gathering Pearls

So little of life's pleasure
is cherished far too late;
the sunrise and the sunset,
the poems they create,

the tenderness of babies,
the sound of bluebird song,
all this and more, we oft ignore
when we should contemplate.

What marvelous creations!
What riches so divine!
We waste our days in constant haze
and miss what's clearly fine.

No monetary treasure
can fill your heart's desire;
true wealth is in the quality
of friendships we acquire.

These pearls can not be tarnished
unless betrayal knocks,
still most will stand the test of time
and never turn to rocks.

So gather not possessions
that soon will turn to dust;
the greatest gems you'll ever find
are friends that you can trust.

I Am the Child

You and I have never met
But I am the child you must not forget.
I am the child who whimpered in pain.
I am the child who was beaten and slain.
I am the child who cried at night.
I am the child whose future was bright.
I am the child whose fear was real.
I am the child whose scars won't heal.
I am the child you see each day,
Who is not your problem, so you turn away.
I am the child, the child so small
Who only wanted to be loved, that's all.
You and I have never met,
But I am the child you must not forget.
