Photographing Your Artwork

Position your work securely on a flat surface so that you can shoot it straight on.

Framing
Position your work within the viewfinder of the camera so that the full image of the artwork fills most of the frame. When photographing a 2D work, check that the edges are parallel to the sides of the viewfinder. If the edges are not straight, adjust the position of your camera or the position of the artwork.

Processing
Have your film processed at a professional lab. It may be cheaper to have it done elsewhere, but it's worth the extra $10 or $20 to have it done right. If you don't know where to find a good lab near you, ask your neighborhood gallery or museum to find out where they get their film processed.
