Harry and Louise Revisited

I do not know if Harry and Louise played a marginal or decisive role in the downfall of the Clinton healthcare program or whether Canadians regularly cross the border for their healthcare. I do know that when the World Health Organization presents its annual report on comparative national health standards http://filestore.who.int/~who/whr/2000/e... the Canadian healthcare system consistently scores at higher levels of performance than the American system. The difference is particularly noticeable on the issue of fairness. The fairness issue is reinforced by the census bureau's 1998 report on Health Insurance coverage that indicates that 16.3% of the American Population has no insurance coverage. At a time when it is fashionable to discuss campaign finance reform, it would be an overdue task to eliminate this glaring gap in the IRS Tax Code and the rules of the FCC. The public must be defended against the unsupported innuendo. Even soft money must identify the sponsor of the spending. To fail to close this gap would be to accept deception as a suitable method of campaigning.
