The Dawn OF Y2K-by Ronald Frevola +Glenn Hameroff
"Twas the morning of the new millenium, when all through the house Not a computer was working, not even my three-button mouse. The lights were not functioning, the air-conditioner wouldn't cool air, The telephone ceased working so no repairman would soon here. The children were nestled all snug in their beds. While Y2K nightmares increased their dread. To mamma with her dead cell phone, and me with a non-working pager, It soon became apparent this crisis was major. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Then what to wondering eyes should appear? But a Y2K genie with a stein full of holiday cheer. "Fear not Ebenezer, you old-fashioned coot All these questions 'bout Y2K shall soon be made moot For high in the heavens beyond any 'scope Lies the longed-for solution (I hope) A comet chuck full of 'lectrcity surges Will bombard the earth with 'lectronic purges All peoples will turn with unbounded joy To an era without even one techno -toy We'll rediscover paper, and pencil and pen We'll learn how to add all over again And maybe somewhere in our present rat race We'll find a new life at a livable pace." Despite our short verse, the Internet and the ITT culture are here to stay. Some zealots view their implementation as a panacea for many social ills. I believe that the following sites will provide a reflective respite from the onslaught of "E-dogma" and allow the thinking individual to assess the cost. 1.
