Remember the old days when we just filled in a sign up form at a market research company's web site and hoped the surveys would arrive? All very serious, it was. Very serious stuff.
Three somewhat recent additions to the paid survey arena have added a new twist to the above scenario. Although their research itself is still undoubtedly serious, and we still sign up hoping for lucrative surveys to be sent our way, at the creepy crawly threesome, described below, we also get to earn our rewards, as spiders, worms, and rats!
FANCY BECOMING A LABRAT? I'll get the most creepy of them all out of the way, first, and tell you of how to become a LABRAT. The site offering this pleasure is Jellyvision, the site behind interactive games such as "You don't know Jack". You're greeted with some odd humor at the site, and this doesn't fade whatsoever at any stage of the signup or participation process.
LABRAT is basically an acronym for Launching Amazing Brands Relies on Audience Testers. As one of their 'merry testers', you could be asked to give them feedback on their products. In return for your opinion, t-shirts, games, and cash could be yours! I am yet to participate there but have heard that the rewards do arrive, and according to the site, they don't involve cheese!
BECOME A WORM AND EARN! Moving on to things somewhat wriggly, it's also possible for survey lovers to earn as worms, at Idea Worm. Each time you take a survey or test a product for them, you earn yourself Wormy Credits, which you can redeem at a later stage, for something from their store, or for cash. On the downside for now, much of the site is "coming soon" and has been for some time. They do, however, reply to mail quickly, and have recently added a survey gateway section to their main page- something a little hope giving for this POWERWORM! (There are apparently different levels of 'wormdom'- something I discovered upon logging in today!) Although there is nowhere to spend them just yet, you can already earn Wormy Credits at the site, too. Just refer a friend and they'll award you with five of them.

Yes, spiders - and as these delightful creepy crawlies at spiderMetrix, our thoughts about web sites can earn us a variety of rewards! As with Idea Worm, there are different levels of 'creepy crawly variety' participation at this site. You're 'born' a Daddy Long Legs and evolve into new spider species, when you take their surveys and accumulate spiderPoints! The higher up the spider scale you happen to be, the more spiderPoints you earn each time you perform a full web site rating for them, too! I quite enjoy the 'spiderPrestige' that comes from point accumulation and working through the levels myself, but if you wish to spend your spiderPoints, just visit their gift shop for details of the merchandise and vouchers on offer. At spiderMetrix, you can also redeem your points for cash, or donate them to charity, and quite early in the program, too.
