Fly Stress Free?

Well, the holidays are upon us now and many of us are going to travel to see loved ones. I have no plans to travel personally, however, many of my relatives have taken the plunge and the number one comment that I have heard from those who have taken to the skies, is that it is horrifying to see really young men, with big guns. I entitle this picture, "Innocence with artillery".

With the way the world is now, I feel that there are several things that one can do to make their travels less stressful.

1. Plan your trip carefully. If you control what you can about your travel plans and what you will see when you get to the airport, you will be less likely to get an anxiety attack.

2. Make sure you get to the airport in plenty of time to calmly go through all of the new procedure.

3. Make sure that you have not packed anything accidentally that is on the not-allowed-to-be-in-your-luggage list. You can view this list at

4. Watch your local news in preparation for what you might see at the airport that you have never seen before. (Armed guards, guns, etc.)

5. Make sure that you and all of your traveling companions have all of the proper identification papers needed to board the plane.

Okay, you have done all that and now it is time to board the plane. If you had a hard time flying before, well, our nations current situation might make it harder for you so you need to be sure that you are mentally prepared as well for your journey. Here are a few things for you to try:

1. Hypnotism.

2. Breathing exercises.

3. Bring your own escape. (Meaning bring a great book or music to escape into.)

4. Prayer

5. I also have found a really useful website that deals with fear and flying. You can find it at: www.anxieties.com/7Flying/fear_of_flying_summary.htm

6. Julie's way: Which is, once I have made the descision to get on that plane, I remind myself of the odds of something happening, which are still pretty low, and that once I am on the plane there is nothing much I can do personally, so I just try to ignore the fact that I am on a plane, by getting involved with my children.

Well, I know that we all have our own ways to deal with this kind of thing, but I hope these tips have helped.

I wish you peace in your travels.
