How the Terrorist Stole Freedom© Julie J. Murelle
( In reference to, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas,")
One way I have been relieving my stress this week, is to allow myself to think. What once was a fairly normal process (thinking) has now become something I must plan to do. Thinking clearly, being key in processing this disaster, has been a little bit harder to come by with the constant media bombardment. (Yes, this is necessary, but frightening and all consuming just the same.) Has anyone thought about which airlines the terrorists chose? The two companies were, "United," and," American." United American. The terrorists tried to steal the unity of Americans and all that we stand for, but he, she or whomever forgot one thing. This is exactly what we are, United Americans and if they think that just by this heinous act they can rip apart the United Americans, well it is my hope that they can see how cohesive the nation has become in their efforts to help each other and to band together as one nation, one voice to say, "We shall overcome." Or in the words of Twisted Sister, "We're not gonna take it!" What has happened is very much like the story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Here this faceless menace, with a heart three sizes too small, slunk into our country, and plotted this horrible, horrible attack with the intention to steal our freedom. Much like the Grinch, this terrorist succeeded in the act, but not in the taking of our spirit. As the Who's down in Whoville, gathered to sing and welcome in Christmas anyway, our nation today at noon joined together, United Americans, in silent thought and prayer, to mourn our loses and to ban together so as to remain strong. As America has in the past, and will remain, even in the alleged stealing of our Freedoms. Unfortunately, it does not seem likely that this Grinchy terrorist, will look over to America and think, I didn't take their freedom at all. Don't get me wrong, I am not diminishing the severity of this situation by my observations. I just think that there is a very strong spirit of unity in Whoville and in America. The message being analogous in this way; the Grinch could not stop the Who's from having Christmas and this terrorist will not stop America from having it's freedoms. The observations above represent me being able to begin to think and organize my thoughts on terms that I can understand. In essence, the beginnings of processing and thinking clearly.
