How Important is Intuition in Reiki Practice?

May 8, 2003 - © Reverend Dina Ely

A technique usually taught in Usui Reiki is called "scanning"; it involves literally scanning your target's energy field for imbalance and signs of disease. This employs your intuition, and thus, the theory that your intuition is important in the practice of Reiki.

I don't disagree. However, I also believe that Reiki is intelligent and whilst it is good for us to give it a nudge in the right direction, it will eventually get there on its own.

So if you don't notice your intuition improving, or never feel a need to employ your intuition, don't worry. It really is not an integral part of practicing Reiki successfully. It doesn't hurt, but it's not what the practice is really about. So long as you have the compassion, the good intent, and the patience necessary to perform the healing, the Reiki will flow!
