Welcome the Seasonal Shift into Spring

© Reverend Dina Ely

The changing of the seasons is difficult for many people. Shifting from Summer to Autumn feels like a tremendous let-down; shifting from Autumn to Winter, with the lack of sunlight, brings depression. Shifting from Winter to Spring makes some people anxious. Allergies, rainy days, and the anticipation of the joys of Summer don't help!

This year, the shift into Spring is tempered further by war, unrest, and fear.

Perhaps now, more than ever, we need to look to and appreciate the beauty and the bounty that Spring will bring us, and be filled with hope--instead of despair.

Being hopeful is integral to benefiting from the practice of Reiki, both for practitioners and recipients. In order to fully experience the physical, emotional and spiritual healing that Reiki brings us, you must let go of expectations and anticipations, and let Reiki flow. The phrase "Let Go and Let God" applies well; if you consider Reiki to be the benevolent energy from a divine source, like the touch of God, then you must be hopeful and faithful that the energy will fix what needs fixing. It will know where to go, and what to do.

Spring should be a time of hope beyond all others. There is rebirth all around us! Nothing, not even the devastation of war in the Middle East and its various and frightening repercussions around the world, can stop the birds from singing. Nothing can stop the days from getting longer, letting more light and sunshine into our lives. Nothing can stop the plethora of animals in our backyards from creating new life, filling our environments with the business of juvenile playfulness and activity. Nothing, save our own minds, can stop us from looking at all these things and rejoicing.

If Reiki is all around us everywhere, all the time, and always within us too, then nothing can stop us from drawing upon its power for peace and inspiration. Tomorrow, step outside and look around you. Breathe in deeply the life-giving air that sustains us all. Feel the air, whatever its temperature, upon your skin. Know that for all its uncertainty, life is still here--you are still here--and you can choose to welcome Spring with open arms. To benefit from the changes in energy all around you!

Perform "spring cleaning" on your attitude and your habits. Instead of staying inside with eyes glued to the television, taking in every detail however positive or negative of what's going on in the world today, go for a walk. Listen and smell and see and feel. Your senses are alive and desperately wanting you to use them!
