This is a very small book, ninety-nine pages in all, but it carries a powerful message much like the way tiny Takata carried a world of love and healing in her heart. When I decided to learn Reiki, I wanted to help people heal physically. I had no idea that Reiki would affect my life in so many other ways. I didn't realize, at first thought, that Reiki would be a part of my everyday life, or that it would actually be a part of me.

Reiki is more than a healing method. Reiki is a way of life. The principles and precepts give us guidelines that seem easy enough to follow. Do not worry, do your work honestly, do not anger, honor your parents, teachers and elders, and show gratitude to everything.

As a Reiki Master, I do strive to do these things as Dr. Usui said, "Just for today." As I read this beautiful book, Living Reiki ~ Takata's Teachings, I was shown the reality of what living Reiki can be. Mrs. Takata, being the only master teaching Reiki for thirty-five years, was a beautiful example of what Reiki can add to all our lives. She taught by example and out of love. Fran Brown shares with us the stories that Mrs. Takata shared with her students as a way of teaching. The stories she told of her life are examples that we can all learn from.

I believe that some of us who have learned Reiki in this age and time still seek more information and more knowledge and wisdom that the old teachers carried with them. When I read this book, I felt that I was there with Mrs. Takata in some way. I could hear her talking, hear her voice. Many times in the book, I could feel what she was feeling. This book really did bring me closer to Takata's teachings in many ways. It helped me have a better understanding of what the principles and precepts of Reiki actually mean.

Do not anger. That seems simple enough, doesn't it? I realized that there are things in my life that I allow to anger me, and that takes me a step away from the meaning of Reiki, the way of living Reiki. If I am angry, it blocks my energies, it keeps me from teaching others by example, it harms me in many ways. By seeing how Mrs. Takata learned her own lessons with this, I feel I have grown. That is the importance of this book, I believe. This book brings us closer to the knowledge and wisdom that Mrs. Takata had, and it helps us see that she too struggled and learned along the way.
