Visualization and Intent

Though Reiki is certainly a very powerful healer and I do not believe that we necessarily have to do anything special to "make" Reiki do what it needs to do, there are things we can do to boost the Reiki energy. I've found that using hypnosis and Reiki together, for example, creates a very powerful healing session.

Visualization is a little like hypnosis, but it doesn't necessarily use the whole hypnosis technique or include the progressive relaxation part of the session. I almost always find myself using visualization with my Reiki healing sessions.

Intent is another thing that can "boost" the Reiki energy. What is intent? Think of it simply as your intentions about what you want the Reiki to do. I know I've said that the Reiki will go and do whatever it needs to do simply by turning it on. Intent, however, helps focus Reiki towards the person you are working with, especially for distance healing.

Do you "have" to do any of these things? No. Actually, I know people who believe that you don't even need to use the Reiki symbols but that you simply need to ask the Reiki to flow, and it will. Me, I'm one of those "every little thing helps" kind of folks, so I want to share some of my techniques that I use in my Reiki sessions using visualization and intent.

I want to look at this from a distance healing point of view, as most of my Reiki healing is sent to people far away from me. It can, however, be done with hands-on clients just as effectively.

First, I focus on my intent to help the healee begin healing. Visualization almost instantly comes into play here, as I bring the person's image clearly into my mind. Sometimes I know what the client looks like, sometimes not, so if I don't know what they look like, I just focus my intent for the Reiki to know who they are.

Also, sometimes you will know where the person is, and sometimes you won't. Simply focus your intent that the Reiki knows where the person is and will flow to them. For example, I've received emails asking for Reiki where all I knew was the person's first name. So, I turn my Reiki on, ask that it flow to "Jane" and trust that the Reiki (being the Universal Life Force Energy) knows exactly who "Jane" is and where she is. My intent is for the Reiki to go to the Jane who sent me the email. I don't over-analyze it.
