A Study of the Reiki Principles

Oct 1, 2003 - © Rev. T. Darlene Cheek, CHt., RMT

Just for today, I shall do my work honestly.

This one is probably much easier for most of us. When practicing Reiki, we must be honest. We can't make false claims about what Reiki can and can not do. We must also practice what we preach. If we expect the people we share Reiki with to accept the blessings of Reiki and live at peace, then we must be living the Reiki principles ourselves and set a good example for what Reiki can do in our lives.

We also must practice our Reiki with integrity. Being prideful hinders the ability to do our work honestly. After all, we are not healing anyone! Reiki is responsible for whatever changes take place in the lives of the healee.

We can't come off as a "know-it-all" who thinks that they are living the perfect Reiki life. No one is perfect, and we all have to be conscious of the principles each and every day in order for them to be at work in our lives.

Just for today, I shall accept my many blessings.

This is one of the principles that many people have problems with. How many of us freely give of anything we are able to give, but when we need help, we don't ask for it. We must, in order to receive blessings, be open and accepting.

This goes back to practicing Reiki with integrity. If we expect our clients to accept their blessings (and their healing), then we should set the example of accepting our blessings as well.

There is also scientific proof that when you are open to receive, endorphins are created in our brain which have healing abilities. Our body actually changes with the change in our minds. We must also want that change to happen! The Reiki energy will only give us what we are ready to accept, as well all know.

Just for today, I shall be at peace.

We are all very aware of what negative energy can do to us and everyone we come in contact with. We must find a place of peace within our heart and spirit. Also, when we are at peace, our clients feel that peaceful energy, and it effects them deeply.

When we feel angry or upset, it shows in everything we do, possibly even more so when we keep those feelings bottled up inside. When we are feeling negative feelings, we need to deal with them instead
