Reiki Accessories

Depending on the system of Reiki you practice, you may find there are accessories available for your practice. Because I strive to keep it simple in this topic, I am going to discuss the basic and most common accessories available for Usui Reiki practice. The use of accessories is, of course, totally optional. Some people find them helpful, and others find them a hindrance. Timer A Reiki timer can be really useful for your sessions. Without a clock or timer of some sort you may find it difficult to know how long to hold each hand position, or how long a session is lasting. Wearing a practical wristwatch works well, because you can simply look down at your hands to tell the time. A wall clock is also effective, but less portable. Some companies have created beautiful and elaborate "Reiki Timers" such as the one found at http://www.reiki-timer.com/. There are those who prefer a more "natural" timer, and for them, a sand timer works perfectly. Since most hand positions are held for 3-5 minutes, you'll want to make sure the timer you use has an appropriate length. Table The Reiki table, typically a massage table, is very important. The more portable and practical, the better. Unless you plan to practice Reiki only on those who are seated, the table is vital to the success of a session. You should make sure the table you use is sturdy and strong, but also comfortable. You should also ensure that the table height is comfortable for you, so you are not putting a strain on your back as you work. If the table has a headrest, that's an added bonus that will bring support to your client as he/she rests on the table. Personally, I purchased a beautiful vinyl-covered massage table in black at a local wholesale club store. It's easy to clean, since the covering is not porous cloth. It's padded and sturdy, holding up to 500 pounds of weight. It's portable and has its own carrying case. It has a detachable headrest. Best of all, it only cost me about $120! Unless your table is like mine, easy to clean and periodically disinfect, you may wish to invest in some disposable head rest covers. You can find some nice tables here: http://www.reikiworld.org/ Effigy You may wish to obtain an effigy that you can use to represent the person on whom you're practicing Reiki via long distances. Many people use teddy bears or dolls to represent the body of their clients. Other people use their own body.
