Young roots singer Ras Shiloh has been catching a lot of criticism on the rec.music.reggae newsgroup this past week.
On August 11, Carlos Culture, a former associate of Ras Shiloh, started a thread with the surprising subject: "Ras Shiloh is a Fucking Fraud!/A greedy wolf in sheeps clothing." In this message, Carlos warns readers: "Stand strong and beware of wolves in sheeps' clothing." Carlos goes on to tell about how Ras Shiloh (Tony Williams) is not the soft-spoken, righteous young New York roots singer that he appears to be. Rather, according to Carlos, he is a "shister [sic]" and a "hustler" with a "short, mean temper" that is "neither humble nor sensible." Ras Shiloh is currently on the TEVA Spirit of Unity tour (http://www.tevaspiritofunity.com/) with more established acts such as Steel Pulse, Third World, and Culture. Carlos takes credit for helping Shiloh land the TEVA gig, and alleges that Shiloh fired the entire management staff, including Knotty B, who was instrumental in the release of Shiloh's first two albums, Idren Chants and Babylon You Doom. Knotty B penned 13 out of 15 tracks from the latter. Carlos details how members of Shiloh's management staff had given up "normal" jobs to help further his career and were never properly compensated for the time, money, and effort that they put in. "Boycott this miserable fuck," Carlos closed his message. Throughout this message, Ras Shiloh became "Ras Shithole." There's no doubt in my mind that Carlos Culture and the rest of Shiloh's former management staff are a bit frustrated at having wasted two-and-a-half years of their life for a "false prophet." The thread consisted mostly of support for Carlos and crew. Some expressed surprise, others said they knew about the problems for a few months and were glad to see them made public. Keep in mind, this is only one man's version of events. Natty B from Reggae Express (http://www.reggaeexpres.com/) noted in a separate thread that he will be interviewing Ras Shiloh soon and hopes to get his side of the story. It should be interesting to see how this all plays out. Go To Page: 1
