Bring Peace to the Public Schools and Our Children

I would like to see programs which pair an at-risk child with an adult volunteer willing to make a long term commitment. This volunteer could accompany the child in school, if necessary, and provide tutoring and non-academic support throughout a child’s school experience. This would provide continuity and stability in the life of a child who might not have it otherwise.

Volunteers and the volunteer organizations which support them can also provide the extracurricular experiences which make a child’s world richer. Theatrical, musical, and other artistic organizations as well as sports and civic organizations can provide education in their respective areas as well as places where there can be an outlet for a child's creativity, effort, and enthusiasm.

If we give our children the opportunity to be children in a peaceful, protected environment, perhaps we can break the cycle of violence which has become commonplace. We can make the world a better and what better place to start than with our children.
