'The Banger Sisters'' Erika Christensen-- Sitting on Top of the World
the actress, but one she says she took on more for selfish reasons than anything else.
"I really liked the character of Madison because she was so far to an extreme," she states. "It was just about acting on certain things that everyone wants to try, and one of them is playing some kind of major psycho—- to play a murderer or whatever it is. After reading the script and meeting with the director though they wanted me to play Shiri Appleby's part. I was just like, 'no, I really would like the chance to do this Madison girl. I think I know what to do with her, so let me play her,' and they did." Nevertheless, even with some of the biggest names in the business praising her talent and career choices-- including fellow Banger Sisters co-stars Sarandon and Goldie Hawn—- Christensen knows that she's not above auditioning to prove herself as an actress just yet. And while Christensen may demonstrate that she has the comedic timing to play less serious roles with The Banger Sisters, she definitely had a lot of convincing to do to land the role of Hannah. According to director Bob Dolman though, it's Christensen's self-confidence that rightfully earned her the part—- and it's her dedication to the profession that will continue to help her land any role she auditions for.
"When Erika came in and read for me she wasn't nearly taking her character in the direction I thought she should go in, and I told her 'I don't think this is the way the scene's intended,'" Dolman recalls. "She just said, 'fine. Give me a room—give me ten minutes.' And she worked on it, came back and earned the part."
"It's ironic that Bob didn't think I could do it at first because I think the characters in The Banger Sisters are all so perfect for the people that play them," Christensen says with a laugh. "But I do remember going down the hallway and I was in another room practicing—- I forget what it was that wasn't working—- but it was one of those things where I knew I could do it.
